Microdermabrasion is commonly carried out by the likes of  to treat skin problems including wrinkles, oiliness, hyperpigmentation and acne. It is often considered to have similar effects as a chemical peel, but uses a totally different process and involves less recovery time. It also has the benefit of giving instant results.

Microdermabrasion involves medical crystals being applied to the skin at high velocity in order to produce an exfoliating effect and can usually be used on all skin types and skin tones. By removing the surface of the skin and taking away dead skin cells, the treatment encourages new collagen, which can help the skin look younger and fresher.

For some, microdermabrasion is used as a preventative treatment that can help to delay the need for cosmetic surgery and thus save money by putting off or eradicating the need for a visit to a surgeon. In addition, microdermabrasion can also be used every few months in order to support the effects of surgery, with people choosing to prolong the effects of operations through the treatment.

It is advisable to have microdermabrasion every few months in order to continue to enjoy the benefits and this can therefore be a costly affair, though savings could be made in other areas as a result of the treatment. For example, individuals may find they are less reliant on cosmetic products or makeup because of the improvement in their skin tone.
