packing the travel essentials

When heading out on holiday, it’s always recommended that you plan plenty ahead – after all, you don’t want to end up at your desired resort without the right attire. After all, what use are jeans on the Mediterranean, or hiking boots on the beach? Be sure to kit yourself out with some of the latest trends at and get exactly what you need for a great, comfortable summer look.

If you’re taking advantage of the great weather and swimming your cares away, save yourself some money by getting some retro shorts to jump in the sea with. Going to the high street to get hold of them for cheap is pointless, given everyone will be wearing the same as you after having a similar brainwave. Check the online racks for nice and simple offerings from Lacoste, Adidas and Nike – you could be in for a real treat.

While they may seem like an obvious choice, white plimsolls are a must. If you’re there for a long stay, you may want to take more than one cheap pair as a heavy night could turn a pair into a bit of a write-off. Better-quality offerings are made by Vans and Airwalk, though will not save you as much money and could end up the same way as a more cost-effective pair.

A travel iron is always a great idea, especially in shared accommodation as a second option or as a way of getting around cheaper hostels. Besides, if you want to look your best, you’ll need to straighten out creases in your clothes that are inflicted by your suitcase. Cheap, blank cotton t-shirts are easier to iron and these may also be a smart financial investment, as they can be thrown away at the end of a holiday to make room for presents and duty-free delights.

Whatever you do, be sure to check the FCO website  before you head out – after all, there’s no point in heading to a new destination if the government warns you against it in the first place!
