Managing acne on a budget

Acne affects millions of young people and adults across the UK, sometimes making life unbearably uncomfortable for the sufferer. A number of treatments have been suggested through the years, from ruthless scrubbing (note: don’t do this!) to extreme, mood-altering medications. Unfortunately, acne hits most of us in our teens, when interacting with people is awkward enough, and money is short. So is there another way to cope with acne that won’t break the bank?

It should be noted that unlike normal spots, acne is not directly related to cleanliness, and medical advice should always be sought from your doctor if it is particularly bad. However, there are a few self-help tricks that can help to prevent breakouts. Changing your pillowcase or covering your pillow with a clean towel every night will prevent your skin from reabsorbing dirt and oils from your bedding. Keep your hair away from your face to prevent irritation, and avoid touching or squeezing your face – however tempting! Avoid wearing make-up, and if you must, always clean it off completely before bed. Look out for organic or natural products, as these will be more gentle on your skin.

Acne scars can be a problem for adults, but these can be treated by beauty clinics across the UK using treatments such as skin peels and dermal fillers. While acne can affect sufferers for year, these and many more self-help tips can ensure that it doesn’t have to be life-consuming – or expensive!
