Should you be planning now to ensure your quality of life in retirement?

Charity, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has this month warned that demand for debt advice from the over 60s age group has risen by a substantial fifteen per cent of the last three years, indicating that many pensioners simply do not have adequate provision to see them through old age.

Although we are as a nation working later and later, many still find themselves unable to fund their basic cost of living once they retire and as a group, pensioners are the hardest hit by inflation because of the nature of the goods and services they buy.

Even basic things like looking after yourself can end up costing you more as you age and things like your hearing and sight deteriorate. This is why preparation for the future should start with self-preservation. Making sure you take up the chance of free hearing checks offered by high street firms like Amplifon and have your eye sight examined regularly could help you to remain more socially active by picking up early warning signs and stop you from having to pay out hundreds of pounds each year in treatment.

As well as protecting your senses, ensuring continued mobility is a must. You might find that financial shortfalls could force you to work longer and this is done far more easily if you remain active and fit. Incorporate as much free exercise as you can into your daily routine and you will enjoy greater mobility in your twilight years and hopefully a better quality of life.
